𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 & 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🐶💦

𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 especially for our furry friends! Dogs rely on proper hydration for digestion, temperature regulation, and overall health. Yet, dehydration is a common issue that can lead to serious health risks like heatstroke, kidney problems, and lethargy.

If you’ve ever noticed your dog refusing water or showing signs of dehydration (dry gums, excessive panting, or loss of energy), it’s time to take action. Here’s how you can encourage healthy hydration habits for your pup!

🐾 𝟱 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱

✅ 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵, 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀

Dogs can be picky about their water! Make sure their bowl is always filled with fresh, clean water and wash it daily to prevent bacteria buildup. Using a stainless steel bowl (𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝘇&𝗖𝗼’𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗹𝘀!) helps keep water cooler for longer and avoids unpleasant odors that plastic bowls can develop.

Not all hydration has to come from a water bowl! Certain fruits and veggies are packed with water and make great dog-friendly snacks. Try offering watermelon, cucumber, celery, or ice cubes on hot days. Just be sure to remove any seeds and avoid toxic foods like grapes.

🌳 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲 & 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

If your dog spends a lot of time outdoors, always make sure they have access to shade and cool spots to rest. Overheating can lead to rapid dehydration, so limit intense activity during the hottest parts of the day.

⚖️ 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲

A good rule of thumb: Dogs should drink about 1 oz of water per pound of body weight each day. If you notice your dog drinking too little (or too much), it could indicate an underlying health issue, so keep an eye on their habits.

🐾 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝘂𝗻 & 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲

Some dogs need a little encouragement! Try placing multiple water stations around the house, using a pet water fountain for running water, or adding a splash of bone broth to their bowl for extra flavor.

🚨 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀

If you suspect your dog isn’t getting enough water, watch for these warning signs:

❌ Dry, sticky gums

❌ Sunken eyes

❌ Excessive panting

❌ Loss of energy or lethargy

❌ Loss of skin elasticity (try gently pinching their skin, if it doesn’t bounce back quickly, they may be dehydrated!)

💡 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗽: Dogs don’t always know when they need to drink more, so it’s up to us as pet parents to ensure they’re staying hydrated. A simple switch to a cooler, cleaner water bowl or adding a hydration boost to their meals can make all the difference!
